Gifts for the Future

The members of ASHRAE are leaders in the HVAC&R profession because of their attention to detail and their ability to solve problems. We hope you will apply those same problem solving skills when considering your estate plans and the future of our profession. We hope that ASHRAE Foundation will be part of the solution when you consider your legacy.



Solving the Puzzle of Your Legacy

Your estate gift to ASHRAE Foundation can take many forms. You may leave a bequest from your will or living trust or you may designate ASHRAE as beneficiary of your financial assets such as an insurance policy or retirement plan.


As your financial picture changes, a bequest or other estate gift can be altered, so long as applicable legal requirements are met. This feature is attractive to people in many different financial situations, especially those of relatively modest means.


All bequest gifts—large or small—are vital to the work of ASHRAE, providing the financial means to continue its legacy of more than a century of experience advancing the arts and sciences of HVAC&R and related human factors to serve the needs of its members and the population at large.


Structuring Your Estate Gift

Bequests from a will or living trust are the most popular estate gifts and can take various forms. You can specify a gift of:


  • a particular dollar amount
  • a certain piece of property
  • all or a portion of the “residue” of the estate, the amount left over after debts, taxes, expenses, and all other bequests have been paid, or
  • a contingent bequest (any of the above gifts but takes place only, for example, if you are not survived by certain individuals)

Unrestricted Bequests

While a general unrestricted bequest is especially valued by ASHRAE Foundation, you can choose to direct your gift to provide support for a particular area or program of ASHRAE. A bequest can also be used to provide payments to a loved one by directing that the bequest be used to establish a life income arrangement. It is also possible to make such an arrangement during life to benefit yourself and/or others.


ASHRAE Foundation would be pleased to provide suggested wording for the particular bequest gift you choose. In addition to the gift itself you will want to identify ASHRAE with its legal name and taxpayer identification number:
• Our full, legal name is "The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air-Conditioning Engineers Foundation"
